Anaheim Pool Builder & Backyard Remodeling
Anaheim is two very different places to build a pool.
The flatland neighborhoods — most of the city west of the 55 and 57 — are established, largely mid-century, with conventional lots and a very large inventory of original pools. That’s one of the biggest remodel and resurfacing markets in Orange County.
Anaheim Hills is foothill country: slope, grade, views, larger homes, and architectural review in many communities. That’s a different design problem, a different engineering problem, and usually a much larger project.
We do both. PoolMax is based in Fountain Valley and has been building across Orange County for thirty years.
Pool Remodeling and Resurfacing in Anaheim
If you live in one of Anaheim’s established neighborhoods and your pool came with the house, it’s very likely several decades old — and very likely worth keeping.
Mid-century gunite shells were generally well built. What fails is everything on top: the interior finish, the waterline tile, the coping, the deck, and the equipment. Replacing those changes the whole character of a backyard for a fraction of replacement cost.
We resurface in PebbleTec, mini-pebble, polished quartz, and plaster. A full remodel typically adds new tile and coping, updated decking, and modern equipment — and on a pool still running a single-speed motor from decades ago, the energy savings from a variable-speed pump are usually larger than homeowners expect.
We assess the shell first. If it isn’t worth keeping, we’ll tell you that too.
Custom Pool Builders Serving Anaheim Hills
Anaheim Hills is where the most ambitious projects in this city happen.
Slope is the defining condition. A pool near a slope edge needs setback analysis and often deepened footings or an engineered retaining system, and on a descending-slope lot the retaining can be a substantial share of the project. We engineer and build retaining ourselves and own our equipment rather than renting it — on a hillside job that’s a real cost and schedule difference. We price it in the first estimate, not as a change order after excavation.
Fire safety shapes the landscape. Properties near open space in the foothills carry landscape and material considerations related to fire safety — planting selection, noncombustible surfaces near the house, and materials on overhead structures. We plan for that from the start rather than defending a design afterward.
Architectural review is common. Many Anaheim Hills communities have association design review covering materials, colors, equipment screening, lighting, and planting. Request your guidelines early; review schedules can set the floor under your timeline.
The upside of all this: Anaheim Hills lots often have room for a complete outdoor environment — pool and spa, terraced hardscape that uses the grade, an outdoor kitchen, a fire feature, and landscape designed as one project.

New Pools in Anaheim’s Established Neighborhoods
Not every flatland yard has a pool, and some that do are past saving.
These lots are generally flat and workable — enough room for a well-proportioned pool and spa with decking and an entertaining area, if it’s designed around the yard rather than dropped in. One thing worth checking early on an older home: the electrical panel. An original service often can’t carry a modern pool, spa heater, outdoor kitchen, and EV charger, and it’s better found at the site visit than mid-project.

Anaheim Pool FAQs
Do you work in both Anaheim Hills and the rest of Anaheim?
Yes. They're very different projects — hillside new construction versus remodeling established pools — and we do both.
Can you build on a sloped Anaheim Hills lot?
Yes. Slope work needs setback analysis, often deepened footings, and sometimes engineered retaining. We build retaining in-house and price it in the original estimate.
My pool is from the 1960s. Is it worth saving?
Usually, if the shell is sound — and most are. We assess it first and give you a straight answer.
Does Anaheim have a specific pool permit?
Yes. The City offers a dedicated Pool/Spa Permit Application through its online services. We handle it for our clients.
