Patience builds strength

Curing Period
Duration: 28 days | Patience builds strength
After the shotcrete is applied, the concrete must undergo a curing period before it reaches its full design strength. This is a chemical process called hydration, where the cement in the concrete reacts with water to form crystalline bonds that give the shell its extraordinary durability.
During the curing period, the shell must be kept moist. You or your builder will lightly spray the shell with water several times per day, especially in the warm, dry conditions typical of Orange County. This controlled moisture prevents the concrete from drying too quickly, which could cause shrinkage cracks and compromise structural integrity.
The standard specification is 28 days to reach the design compressive strength of 4,000 PSI. While this may feel like a long wait, this period is far from idle. Your builder will use this time to schedule and complete tile installation, coping work, and decking, so multiple phases progress simultaneously.
Do not be alarmed if you see minor surface cracking during this period. Some superficial cracking is normal as the concrete cures and does not affect the structural integrity of the shell.
DURING THE CURE:
- Mist the shell with water 2-3 times daily
28-day cure period to reach full 4,000+ PSI strength - Tile, coping, and deck work scheduled during this time
- Minor surface cracking is normal and not structural
