A PoolMax construction crew applying high-pressure shotcrete to form the structural shell of a custom swimming pool in Orange County, CA.

Shotcrete

Duration: 1-2 days | The heart of construction

This is one of the most dramatic days of your pool construction. Shotcrete is a high-strength concrete mixture that is pre-mixed with water and pneumatically sprayed at high velocity over the steel framework. Unlike traditional poured concrete, shotcrete achieves superior compaction and density, resulting in a shell that exceeds 4,000 PSI compressive strength.

A specialized crew uses high-pressure hoses to apply the shotcrete mixture in layers, building up the walls to 8-12 inches thick. Skilled craftsmen hand-shape and trowel the steps, benches, ledges, and all curved surfaces. The bond beam at the top of the walls is formed to provide the structural connection point for your coping.

During application, a certified special inspector monitors the process to ensure proper thickness, coverage, and compaction at all points. This is a code requirement in California for all shotcrete pool construction.

At the end of this day,

your pool will have its permanent concrete shell and will truly look like a swimming pool for the first time.
